Teaching

Collège (Middle School) corresponds to the cycles 3 and 4 in the French scolarship organization.

Middle school welcomes every pupil after the primary school.

Middle School education is organised in various subjects: French, Italian (beginner, LV and LCN), modern languages (German, Spanish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese), Mathematics, History-Geography, Citizenship, Life and Earth Science, Information and Technology, Visual Arts, Musical Education, Physical and Sport Education, Languages and Cultures of Antiquity. Expectations are set by the national curricula.

At the end of 3ème, students take their Final Exam (Diplôme national du Brevet, equivalent to the British General Certificate of Secondary Education).

Personalized support extended to every middle school level (Accompagnement personnalisé - AP)

The general approach to personalized support is based on educational records whose goal is to monitor pupils’ skills in two main competences: fluency in french language and mathematics.

For all pupils, Persionalized support is organized in four steps:

  1. Records start with a “Diagnosis”, that leads to an assessment of students’ experience, in order to determine precisely the causes of everyone’s difficulty;

  2. Activities and exercises during the “Support” phase are addressed to different student profiles, including those who do not have a specific problem but need to gain in confidence and efficiency.

  3. One or several “Evaluation” activities allow us to check achievements.

  4. The final part, called “Extensions”, enables to develop pupils’ ease with a reinvestment of support’s benefits. These extensions can be quickly proposed to most talented students.

The difficulties this programme faces are diverse: from general educational issue to more punctual know-how.

Enseignements pratiques interdisciplinaires (EPI)

EPIs (practical interdisciplinary learnings) are special moments dedicated to the implementation of different ways of learning and working official programmes. They consist in creating a lesson in coordination with several teachers about a precise cross-cutting thematic. This work is organized as a project.

Every EPI has to follow one of the following interdisciplinary topics:

  • Body, health, well-being and safety;

  • Culture and artistic creations;

  • Ecological transition and sustainable development;

  • Information, communication, citizenship;

  • Languages and cultures of Antiquity;

  • Foreign or regional languages and cultures;

  • Business world;

  • Sciences, technology and society.

They also have to make a real contribution to the development of the four educational “Parcours”:

parcours citoyen, parcours d'éducation artistique et culturelle (PEAC), parcours avenir and parcours santé.

From 6ème to Terminale: Enseignement moral et civique (EMC)

The goal of EMC is to jointly develop the formation of a future citizen and the formation of his critical reasoning.The student then acquires a moral consciousness that allows him to understand, respect and share humanist values of friendship, respect and responsibility. The moral taught is a civic one, since it is closely related to citizenship values.

In the frame of these teachings, new programmes of EMC point to specific activities and educational practices:

  • Argumentative debate;

  • Moral dilemmas;

  • Philosophical discussion;

  • La discussion à visée philosophique ;

  • “Méthode de clarification des valeurs” (education to values based on the study of one’s life experience);

  • Students councils;

  • Clear messages technique, in order to solve minor feuds.
