Socle commun de connaissances, de compétences et de culture

The "socle commun de connaissances, de compétences et de culture" (common base of knowledges and competences) precises everything a student must know and master before the end of mandatory scholarship. Introduced within the 2005 law, it gathers all the knowledges, competences, values and behaviours necessary to fulfill their scholarship and individual life as a future citizen. A personal competences booklet allows to follow up students’ progress.

More information about the “socle” on Eduscol website.

From 2017 the validation of the “socle commun” constitutes the continuous monitoring taken into account by the Diplôme National du Brevet: it represents 400 points out of the 700 available.

Each one of the 8 learning fields included in the “socle commun” (written and spoken French; mathematical, IT and scientific languages; world and human activity representation; regional and foreign languages, technical and natural systems; citizen development; arts and body language; learning methods and tools) bring to the student a certain amount of points, determined during the 3rd trimester class council in 3ème:

  • Insufficient mastery (10 points)

  • Tenuous mastery (20 points)

  • Satisfying mastery (35 points)

  • Very good mastery (50 points)
